Let’s face it. Money has been tight ever since the threat of the coronavirus started looming. Many things have changed since then. But one thing that hasn’t is the emerging fashion trends that are still appearing on a day to day basis. Company locations have shut down temporarily, and factories across the world have been forced to shut — but fashion still lives on. From shooting their next campaign in their apartment, to having photoshoots over zoom calls, clothing companies have been working tirelessly day and night to keep fashion thriving during these dark times.

They’ve done so well that even in this virtual day and age I still look forward to the latest fashion trends. I could write about many different trends happening this season, but instead I decided to narrow them down and talk about just one of my favorites going on. SHOES.

Trends like these will leave you reaching for your wallet to purchase faster than Trump can send out another tweet falsely claiming his election victory! Let’s get right into it.

Poshed-up Welly’s

L to R: Fendi, Ferragamo, Prada, Etro, Marni, Dolce & Gabbana, Lanvin, Givenchy

Take it from me. Actually no, take it from Fendi, Ferragamo, Prada, Etro, Marni, Dolce, Lavin, Givenchy, and many more designers. These Italian houses were the ones to establish this seasons most unexpected shoe wear: the Wellington boot. Chunky or poshy welly’s you may be asking. Well in this case, that comes down to your personal preference. You’ve got many options to choose from under $100, but I will leave just a few down below for you to take a quick look at.

Hunter Welly’s — $95
BARBOUR Wellington’s — $100
Target short cut welly’s — $35

Thigh-High Boots

L to R: Saint Laurent, Rick Owens, Sportmax and Off-White.

Thigh highs certainly give off a bad girl vibe. That’s how I felt when I saw these fits on the Fall and Winter runway this season. They’re not just any thigh highs, but bold leather ones. These shown above are stiletto heels, but you can take them a step further and look into tread sole thigh highs if you’re concerned about snowy weather. These thigh highs come in either a flat boot or in heels. They’re a huge hit this year, so I encourage you to look into them! I’ll leave some examples below.

Steve Madden Women’s Vanquish Over-the-Knee Thigh-High Boots — $60
Funtasma GOGO-3000 — $58
ASOS Stradivarius hi-leg chunky pull-on chelsea boots in black — $90

Bold Loafers

I know what you might be thinking: “Kaylee, why the heck would we see even bolder loafers this season?” and that’s a great question. I never thought I would see the day where I would even consider wearing them myself. I remember my mom buying me these shoes as a kid and being appalled. But my perception of these bad boys has changed exceptionally. I’ve started seeing a ton of different possibilities with these. Baggy key piece slacks, a fit vintage hoodie, an oversized tailored trench coat + any of the platform loafers below… come on. It’s a vibe mate.

ASOS Wide Fit Monster chunky loafers — $48
ASOS Wide Fit Stirrup mid-heeled loafers — $36
ASOS Selina platform mid-heeled loafers — $64

Flatforms For Days

Flatforms are the definition of European style. I remember while living in London I saw many individuals pulling off these kicks. Naturally, that made me wonder when I will see these worn in the states. And people, that time is now. I’ve mostly seen these worn on the east coast like in New York and New Jersey, but who’s to say that some fashionista living in Omaha, Nebraska can’t ?!

PLT WHITE FLATFORM SPORTY CHUNKY SNEAKERS — $47
IN IT TO WIN IT VELCRO SNEAKERS — $44
Fila Disruptor 2 Wedge Sneakers — $80

Air Jordan 1

Air Jordan 1 on Dior Runway

Most sneakers have trickled down from the Spring and Summer season. So you will probably be seeing a bunch of Jordan ones. I need to get myself a pair of these, mostly because the color options have no limits. Also because they go with just about any streetwear outfit you can think of. I imagine wearing these kicks with some baggy jeans and an oversized hoodie (p.s. don’t forget the chain to hang on your jeans!). These shoes can peak over our price range of $100, especially if you want a Dior collaborated pair. But there are still plenty of options at an affordable price. Check them out below!

Air Jordan 1 Mid Black — $90
Air Jordan 1 Low Multicolor Swoosh — $80
Nike Air Jordan 1 Low Sneaker — $90

To sum things up —

Fashion is an ongoing cycle. Even during this pandemic, it gives me and many others hope for the future. It’s become crystal clear to me that fashion can never die. It’s also clear to me that in this dressing season, the uglier the shoe, the more fashionable it is.

There are many more trends to cover besides shoes, but I wanted this topic to be the first one I wrote about because it’s one of the few that excites me the most. Another Winter 2020 trend I’d love to write is one of my all-time favorites: Natural Tones All Over. I’ll have to get started writing that for you asap. See you in the next post!
